What is the cause of urine odor or why it smell bad like ammonia or acid? Many people complain about urine odor and wanted to deep into it. Because it's a common problem that can happen to anyone. But in certain cases or if the urine odor does not go with in two or three days, it is matter of concern.
Normal urine has ammonia which is a normal product of the metabolism of protein, that cause urine odor like ammonia. If you do not take sufficient water or your body goes dehydrate, there are chances that you can have urine odor too. Sometimes urine also smells like spices, and the reason could be that you might have been consuming a lot of spicy food. But all these are normal symptoms, from which you should get rid of in maximum two or three days.
But even after two days urine odor is continue and getting stronger smell day by day, one must consult to their doctor as it may cause due to any health related issue, presence of bacteria in urine.
Few urine diseases that cause urine odor are as follows:
- Cystitis (bladder inflammation): This is very common inflammation of the urinary bladder problem, which cause due to infection and is usually accompanied by frequent painful urination.
- Dehydration: When your body lose water more than it intakes and imbalance the salts and sugar level present in the blood it cause dehydration. And dehydration also cause urine odor.
- Diabetic ketoacidosis: It causes high levels of blood acids called ketones.
- Gastrointestinal-bladder fistula
- Maple syrup urine disease
- Metabolic disorder
- Type 2 diabetes
- Urinary tract infection (UTI): It is a very common infection that can happen to anyone and this kind of infection also cause urine odor or smell. The UTI infection can be self diagnosed because of its symptoms.
